Answers to Questions most often asked about the
Foster / Adoption Process

If you are interested in Fostering an equine for SCEA,
the procedure is as follows:

You must:

1.        Complete the SCEA application

2.        Agree to an inspection by a qualified SCEA member prior to the arrival of the
said equine and random inspections throughout the stay of the equine by the
assigned Guardian Angel of the said equine.

3.        Be able to provide adequate shelter and fencing for said equine (according
to SCEA standards)

4.        Provide adequate feed and fresh water for said equine

5.        Agree to give any special care needs such as vitamins or medications etc
that the said equine requires.

6.        Schedule regular hoof maintenance with a qualified Farrier / Blacksmith
(notify SCEA in advance of each scheduled service).

7.        Schedule routine / or emergency veterinary services for said equine (notify
SCEA in advance of each service or immediately if an emergency situation should
occur!)

8.        Foster parent is responsible for the costs of the said equine unless any
other prior arrangements are made and agreed to by both the Foster parent and
SCEA.

9.        Foster parents are allowed use of the said equine following the specific
rules and guidelines made in advance for the said equine by SCEA (such as riding
or driving). Breeding is NOT ALLOWED!

10.     Read and complete the SCEA Foster contract before signing knowing that the
said equine was seized by the Humane Society for reasons of neglect or abuse or
both. These animals most often have both physical and emotional scars and
require special love and attention.

11.     Foster parenting can be very gratifying and rewarding in knowing that you
have aided in the recovery of a rescued equine! It is amazing how they respond to
love and attention and can turn into great companions!

12.     Good Foster parents have first rights at adoption of the said equine should
they choose to do so and are given reduced adoption fees, if any.

13.     If the said equine must be returned to SCEA for any reason, SCEA requires at
least 3 weeks notification in advance to find alternative housing for the said equine.

If you are interested in adopting an equine from
SCEA, the procedure is as follows:

1.        Requirements are the same as the first 7 steps of the Foster contract listed
above.

2.        All costs and fees of the said equine are the responsibility of the Adopter

3.        Adoption fees are minimal and vary on every equine. As we do Not Sell
horses, we try only to recover the costs that SCEA has into them.

4.        Same as step 9, 10, and 11 in Foster contract

5.      Ownership of the said equine is shared with SCEA for a period of 2 years. If
the Adopter has fulfilled all the requirements and conditions of the Adoption
Contract during this time period, the Adopter then becomes sole owner of the said
equine. SCEA hereafter relinquishes all rights of ownership.

6.      Same as step 13 of Foster Contract
Please understand
no preference is
given to anyone in
the adoption
process.It is based
